Spring Break will start on March 15. Teachers and students alike are looking forward to this break. I encourage all of the students who are playing recorders to continue practicing them during the break. Missing a week of practice is not good for any person who is playing an instrument. Parents can help in this by encouraging their children to practice, even though the recorder can seem shrill to the ear after a time. We need to stay in practice because we will be having a concert in late April or early May. Stay tuned to this blog site for further updates.

The fourth grade classes have started playing kazoos, much to the alarm and dismay of Miss Jordan and Mr. Sisk. Fortunately the kazoos can be played only in the music class now, since none of the students have purchased one. Be forewarned: that may change in the future. Many of the students have asked about buying a kazoo for their very own.
Why a kazoo? After all, it is just a toy, right? The kazoo teaches pitch recognition to the students. They have to match their pitch to the correct pitch in the music. This skill is vital for all musicians, and learning it at a young age helps students to develop as musicians quickly. The only skill required for the kazoo is humming, and almost anyone can do that.
So in the future you can expect to hear the joyous and mellifluous sound of kazoos wafting over the campus of Liberty Traditional Charter School.
I apologize beforehand.
Whimsically,
Mr. Deyton
